Precision Imaging at 30,000 FPS for The Popcorn Board
Impact Studios was tapped by The Popcorn Board— a U.S. non-profit established by Congress to promote popcorn. The objective was to transform a domestic staple into a captivating cinematic experience while promoting it as a versatile snack to a global audience.
The Technical Challenge: Capturing the "Micro-Explosion"
A kernel pops in a split second. To see it happen, we used ultra-high-speed cameras. By shooting at speeds far beyond standard TV, we captured the starch as it expands, little whisps of smoke escape. This process is invisible to the human eye, but our cameras make it crystal clear.
At Impact Studios, we bridge the gap between human perception and reality. Using Vision Research Phantom cameras, we capture motion at more than 30,000 images per second. We turn rapid events into breathtaking visual stories.
Delivering Beyond the Screen
For this project, we also created a custom printed flipbook for children. By turning our video into a physical book, frame-by-frame, we let kids experience the pop at their own speed. This project shows how we merge science with creative storytelling.
Technical Achievement Highlights:
- Industrial Diagnostics: We help engineers see rapid machinery in slow motion. This makes it easy to find mechanical failures that standard tools miss.
- Cinematic Stories: We add prestige to commercials with ultra slow motion scenes.
- Data Experts: We handle the massive data and complex editing workflows for high-speed shoots.
- Full Service: From on-site filming in NY, CT, and LI to final editing, we provide a total solution for high-speed video.
