History By Design:
Where Past Meets Present

History by Design is more than another home renovation show. It is a visual trip through the history of the homes in the American Northeast. From 18th-century barns to grand mansions from the 1900s, host Kevin Durkin and his team turn historic old buildings into modern living spaces.

The Impact Studios Production Strategy

Impact Studios was hired to provide the full technical support for the series. Our goal was to mix old-world history with the look of a modern TV show.

  • Cinema Quality: Our Director of Photography, John Carboni, used Blackmagic 6K cameras to get the best picture. This was vital for showing the textures of old stone and wood in buildings that had no modern lighting.
  • Modern Effects: Along with regular editing, our team used 3D animations and "Augmented Reality." This lets viewers see a 3D model of the finished home placed right over the old, crumbling structure.
  • Broadcast Ready: We handled the project from the very first shot to the final edit. We made sure the show met the high standards required by national TV networks.

Technical Highlights

  • Full Visual Support: We managed everything from the camera crews to the high-end gear and the final editing.
  • Advanced 3D Tech: we worked on the 3D models to make sure they lined up perfectly with the real-world buildings.
  • Historic Preservation: We used specialized gear to film inside 250-year-old rooms that were often very tight and fragile.

A Standard for Production Partnerships
